Porcelain Veneers
Have you ever hidden your smile in photos or felt self-conscious about sharing a laugh with friends? These are simple things we take for granted, but if you don’t like the way your teeth look, they can impact your life every day.
If you dream of a flawless smile that you can share openly and confidently, porcelain veneers at Mesquite Dental Suite can make that dream a reality. Our experienced cosmetic dentists, Dr. Josee Jansen and Dr. Seth Hintze, custom craft beautiful porcelain veneers to give you the red-carpet smile you’ve always wanted.
How Do Dental Veneers Work?
Veneers are thin shells custom-made to fit over the front surfaces of your teeth and provide an immediate smile transformation. While porcelain is the most popular material for veneers, you can also opt for composite resin.
- Porcelain veneers — Crafted in a custom dental lab, porcelain veneers are known for their lifelike appearance and durability. They reflect light similarly to natural teeth for a realistic appearance and seamless smile.
- Composite veneers — Made of a tooth-colored resin material, composite veneers are sculpted and bonded directly onto the teeth, usually in a single appointment.
What Smile Issues Do Veneers Correct?
Because porcelain veneers cover your tooth, they conceal numerous aesthetic smile issues, including:
- Discolored or stained teeth
- Broken teeth
- Cracked teeth
- Uneven spacing
- Wide gaps between teeth
- Slightly misaligned teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Worn down teeth
What Type of Veneer Is Right for You?
Porcelain veneers are highly stain-resistant, natural-looking, and require minimal removal of tooth enamel. With proper care, they can last ten years or longer. On the downside, porcelain veneers are an investment that requires at least two visits, and they can’t be repaired if they break.
Composite veneers are less expensive, repairable, and usually require only one visit to our dental practice to complete. However, they are more prone to staining, may not look as natural as porcelain, and generally last only about five years.
When you meet with our cosmetic dentists, they will ask you about your smile goals, evaluate your oral health, and recommend the best veneer type for your unique needs.
The Process for Getting Veneers
Getting porcelain veneers involves removing a thin layer of enamel to prepare your teeth for the veneers. Next, we take comfortable digital impressions and send them to a lab where your custom veneers are expertly crafted to our specifications. Once ready, we bond them to your teeth at a follow-up visit.
Composite veneers can typically be completed in a single visit to Mesquite Dental Suite. After a consultation, we apply the composite material directly to your teeth, then shape, sculpt, and polish it to achieve the desired look.
Caring for Your Veneers
Taking a few simple steps will ensure the longevity of your veneers:
- Brush at least twice daily and floss once.
- Don't bite on hard objects like ice or hard candies.
- Wear a mouthguard if you play sports or grind your teeth.
- Visit us routinely for professional cleanings and check-ups.
- Avoid stain-causing foods and beverages.
